Fitness Heresy

What is this all about?

This is my first blog so please bear with me...

Basically this is going to be a journal of my experiences with Exercise and Nutrition.  However, I'm tired of all the rhetoric that comes with dieting and exercise.  At places like the  Veterans Hospital all they teach is the same high carb (mostly grains) low fat diet. We're bombarded everyday with "whole-grain" this and "low-fat" that, but it doesn't seem to be helping, we keep getting fatter!  Cardio is also taught as being more important than resistance training.  But is running on the treadmill for an hour what you want to be doing?  Is it actually making you fitter(not just skinny but actually a fitter person)?  So much information and research is coming out all the time that makes me doubt all of it!

So this is going to be an experiment, using myself as a guinea pig, to go against this type of advice!  I want to find something that works, that goes against the norm, and is healthy.  Doing this will help motivate me to continue on my quest for fitness and health.  I've found that motivation is fleeting, especially without some accountability.  This will keep me accountable (no matter how many people may be reading it).  And I'll also be able to record my results better than just the weekly weigh-in.  So let's get started!

Thanks!
